Ingredients

For the Cake:
  • 5 large Eggs
  • 250 g Homemade Chocolate Hazelnut Spread or Nutella
  • 2 tablespoons Dutch Unsweetened Cocoa Powder optional
  • Spray Oil for greasing the pan

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Spatula
  • Oven

Method

Stepwise Method:
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). This step is crucial for achieving that perfect rise.
  2. Spray your 9-inch round cake pan with oil to prevent sticking. You can also line the bottom with parchment paper for added assurance.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 5 eggs. Using a whisk or electric mixer, beat the eggs until they are frothy and have doubled in size. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Gently fold in the 250g of Nutella into the beaten eggs. Use a spatula to combine until smooth. If you’re adding cocoa powder, sprinkle it in at this stage and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly with your spatula.
  6. Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure your eggs are at room temperature for better aeration.
  • Don’t overmix the batter; folding gently will keep the cake light and fluffy.
  • Check the cake a few minutes before the timer goes off to avoid overbaking.
