Ingredients

  • 1/2 fresh avocado ripe but firm
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour can substitute chickpea flour or rice flour for gluten-free option
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch salt

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Sharp knife or mandoline slicer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush or small spoon
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Start by slicing your avocado half into thin, uniform slices about 1/8-inch thick. Be gentle to avoid mashing the avocado.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Using a pastry brush or your fingers, lightly coat each avocado slice with the flour mixture. Ensure even coverage without overcoating.
  4. Place the coated avocado slices on a prepared baking sheet in a single layer without overlapping.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the avocado slices for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through for even golden browning. Watch closely near the end to avoid burning.
  6. Remove from oven and transfer chips to a cooling rack to keep crisp. Enjoy immediately or store for later.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to slice avocado thinly for best crispiness.
  • Customize flavor by adding smoked paprika, garlic powder, or chili flakes to the flour mixture.
  • Store chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days; avoid refrigeration to keep crisp.
  • Reheat chips in an oven or toaster oven at 300°F for 3-5 minutes to regain crunchiness.
  • Substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flours like chickpea or rice flour for a gluten-free snack.
