Build Burger Puff Pastry Bites Step by Step
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, ketchup, yellow mustard, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (or your favorite BBQ rub). Mix until well combined.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) if you are baking. If you’re using a smoker, prepare it for indirect cooking. Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
- Using a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, cut the pastry sheets into squares or rectangles, about 3x3 inches in size.
- Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each pastry square. Be careful not to overfill.
- Fold the pastry over the filling to create a triangle or rectangle shape. Press the edges together firmly to seal.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg until it’s well beaten. Brush the tops of each pastry with the egg wash.
- If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top of the pastries before placing them in the oven.
- For baking, place the pastry bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the bites are baking or smoking, whisk together the ketchup, mayonnaise, sugar, cracked black pepper, and pickle juice (or relish) in a small bowl.
- Once the Burger Puff Pastry Bites are golden and cooked through, remove them from the oven or smoker. Let them cool for a few minutes, then serve them warm with the dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Experiment with different spices in the filling to match your flavor preferences.
- These bites can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking.
