Ingredients

  • 16 oz fresh or frozen berries or chopped fruit (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1-3 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or agave (optional)

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Jar or Container

Method

  1. Begin by washing your fresh berries or thawing your frozen fruit. If using whole fruits, chop them into smaller pieces.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the prepared fruit with the lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the fruit begins to break down, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Once the fruit is cooked, remove from heat. Stir in the chia seeds and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  4. After thickening, taste and adjust sweetness with honey, maple syrup, or agave if desired.
  5. Allow to cool to room temperature before transferring to a jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Store jam in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • Freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage, up to three months.
  • Experiment with different fruits like peaches or mangoes for variety.
