Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional
  • 3/4 to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup cherries fresh or frozen

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 9x9-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. Line your 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it with butter.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and light brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, stirring until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and cherries until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Once baked, let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into bars and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter.
