Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Cream them together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips using a spatula.
  7. Scoop rounded balls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. The centers should look slightly underbaked.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • For longer storage, freeze cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
  • Use softened butter for the best texture and flavor.
  • Feel free to substitute chocolate chips with dark or white chocolate.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
