Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk whole milk preferred
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chopped or chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • whipped cream optional
  • chocolate shavings optional

Method
 

Instructions:
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
  2. Slowly pour in the milk while continuing to whisk the dry ingredients to prevent lumps.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat, add the semisweet chocolate and vanilla extract, stirring until melted and smooth.
  5. For ultra-smooth pudding, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or serving dishes.
  6. Allow to cool slightly, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
  7. Serve chilled, topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
