Ingredients

  • 1 medium ripe banana peeled and broken into pieces
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup low-fat or fat-free Greek yogurt or vegan yogurt
  • 1/2 cup fat-free milk or any dairy-free milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder or unflavored protein powder with a splash of vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter or almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon flax meal
  • 1 tablespoon acai berry powder optional

Equipment

  • High-speed blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Glass or Mason Jar

Method

  1. Start by peeling the ripe banana and breaking it into smaller pieces. This helps the blending process go smoothly.
  2. In your high-speed blender, add the banana pieces along with 1 cup of frozen blueberries. The frozen berries will give your smoothie a wonderfully refreshing chill.
  3. Next, add 1 cup of Greek yogurt (or vegan yogurt) to the blender. This ingredient is essential for adding creaminess and protein to your smoothie.
  4. Pour in 1/2 cup of your chosen milk. This will help with blending and create a smooth consistency.
  5. Add 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder. If you're using an unflavored variety, add a splash of vanilla extract for that sweet aroma.
  6. Spoon in 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter or almond butter for a delicious nutty flavor and healthy fat.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and 1 tablespoon of flax meal to boost the nutritional profile of your smoothie.
  8. If you’re using it, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of acai berry powder for an antioxidant kick.
  9. Secure the lid on your blender and blend on high until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth. This usually takes about 30-60 seconds.
  10. Once blended, pour the smoothie into your favorite glass or mason jar. If desired, garnish with a few extra blueberries or a sprinkle of chia seeds on top.

Notes

  • Store any leftover smoothie in an airtight container for up to 24 hours, giving it a good shake before enjoying.
  • Freeze smoothie portions in ice cube trays for a quick treat by blending frozen cubes with a little milk or yogurt.
  • Prep your ingredients ahead of time by portioning out the banana, blueberries, and other add-ins in freezer bags for a quick blend in the morning.
