Ingredients

  • 40 pieces precooked frozen meatballs
  • 2 cans San Marzano crushed tomatoes 15 oz each
  • 2 cans tomato paste 6 oz each
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring spoons
  • Can opener
  • Serving utensils

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and tools. Open the cans of crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, and measure out your spices.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the tomato paste. Stir them together to create a thick sauce base.
  3. Sprinkle in the granulated sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  4. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the sauce to a simmer. Allow it to bubble gently for about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Carefully add the frozen meatballs to the simmering sauce. Stir gently to coat the meatballs in the sauce.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 30 minutes.
  7. Once the meatballs are thoroughly heated, give the sauce a final stir. Serve your Italian meatballs over spaghetti, in a sub, or enjoy them on their own.

Notes

  • For added nutrition, toss in fresh vegetables like bell peppers or onions.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick!
  • To make the sauce thicker, simmer uncovered to evaporate some liquid.
