Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 box white cake mix 15.25-ounce, prepared according to box instructions with eggs, oil, and water
  • 1 box strawberry Jell-O 3-ounce
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 tub whipped topping 8-ounce tub, or 2 cups freshly whipped cream

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Wooden spoon or skewer
  • Measuring cups
  • Cooling rack
  • Spatula

Method

Preparation and Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) or as directed on cake mix box. Prepare cake batter according to box instructions using eggs, oil, and water. Pour batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely on a cooling rack.
Jell-O Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, dissolve the 3-ounce box of strawberry Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water. Stir vigorously until fully dissolved.
  2. Add 1 cup cold water to the Jell-O mixture and stir. Set aside to cool to room temperature without allowing it to set.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Once the cake is completely cooled, use a wooden spoon handle or skewer to poke holes about 1 inch apart all over the cake surface.
  2. Slowly pour the cooled Jell-O mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  3. Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the Jell-O to set completely.
  4. Before serving, spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Ensure the cake is completely cooled before poking holes to prevent melting the Jell-O.
  • Pour the Jell-O mixture slowly and evenly for best absorption.
  • Refrigerate for several hours or overnight for the best texture and flavor.
  • Try different Jell-O flavors or cake mixes to customize this dessert.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 3-4 days.
