Cooking Instructions:
- Step 1: Preheat the Oven - Start by preheating your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
- Step 2: Prepare the Dough - If you’re using homemade whole wheat pizza dough, take it out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Step 3: Sauté the Mushrooms - In a skillet over medium heat, add the extra virgin olive oil. Once hot, add the mixed sliced mushrooms and kosher salt. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until browned. Add the thinly sliced garlic and chopped fresh thyme, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Step 4: Shape the Dough - On a floured surface, take your dough and stretch it into a 12-inch round, about ¼ inch thick.
- Step 5: Assemble the Pizza - Transfer the shaped dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the base, then sprinkle with the sautéed mushroom mixture, followed by the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Step 6: Bake - Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Step 7: Serve and Enjoy - Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Slice it up and serve hot, garnished with more fresh thyme if desired.
Notes
- Mix different mushrooms for enhanced flavor.
- Pre-cook the mushrooms to prevent a soggy crust.
- Let the dough rest before shaping for easier handling.
- Consider using a pizza stone for a crispier crust.
